ESPENTALS - Local area

Espentals is midway between Montaigu-de-Quercy and the medieval Bastide town of Lauzerte.  Set in the beautiful rolling hills of northern Tarn-et-Garonne which offer spectacular scenery and views. Golf, parachuting, canoeing, tennis, horse riding, an impressive leisure lake at Montaigu-de-Quercy with all water activities, walking, cycling are just some of the activities offered within 15 minutes.

The nearest village is Touffailles about 2.5 km away; it has an excellent bakery which also has a groceries section offering a good selection of essentials (such as milk, cheese, wine, veg, fruit, cleaning stuff, light bulbs, and much more).

Touffailles also has a lake, 2 children's play areas, and an excellent tennis court (Photo Right) for which we have bought an annual membership, allowing guests to play tennis free of charge whenever they wish.  The key to the Touffailles tennis court is kept in the Espentals kitchen drawer for free use whenever you chose.

Both Montaigu-de-Quercy and Lauzerte (both shown above) are very pretty small towns which offer supermarkets, shops, restaurants, bars and tourist attractions as well as weekly markets.

Montaigu has an excellent leisure lake which offers a large sandy beach, swimming, water slides, tennis, mini golf, and a restaurant.

Bicycles can be hired from the Larroque Garage at Montaigu and from other local providers.

Lauzerte is a classic bastide town with a beautiful old centre and impressive fortifications.  It is an important popular stop on the pilgrimage route of St Jaques de Compostelle.

This is an area very rich in history and heritage; the town of Moissac (shown left and right) with its famous 13th Century Roman cloisters and architecture is just 18 km south and there are a host of medieval Bastide villages nearby, including Lauzerte.

The Chateaux and Vineyards of Cahors are within 10 minutes, and make an excellent afternoon, or all-day, visit.

Just 20 mins from the A20 motorway, less than 1 hour north of the city of Toulouse with its international airport (British Airways, BMI, Air France), 1 hour from Bergerac Airport (Ryan Air), and 40 minutes from the TGV rail station at Agen.  4 1/2 hours drive from Paris down the new A20.  30 mins South of the Roman town of Cahors.  Equidistant from the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts for easy day trips to the seaside.

The area is most popular with French and European visitors alike and caters very well for those interested in getting out and about, be it to sites of culture and heritage, or simply to be at peace in the spectacular countryside.

Our family home is perfect for a peaceful, private holiday in luxurious but traditional surroundings, all set in an area of outstanding interest and beauty.
